Free Worlds League
The
Free Worlds League
is one of the five Successor States of the Inner Sphere. Founded in 2271 it is the oldest of these realms, and unlike the others is technically a federation of smaller states ruled by a democratic Parliament rather than a single nation under one Great House. In practice, the League has usually been a
de facto
military dictatorship under the Captains-General of House Marik, although their authority has been more contested than that of other House Lords. This internal strife and the League's strength as a mercantile and industrial power have arisen from the same source: the sheer diversity of the League's member provinces.
From before the Age of War through the Star League and Succession Wars eras, the Free Worlds League held its own against its external enemies but was plagued by factionalism and occasionally civil war. The mid-thirty-first century seemed to herald a new golden age for the League, as Captain-General Thomas Marik strengthened federal authority and the Clan Invasion resulted in the League's economy booming from arms exports. But providing a haven for the Word of Blake following the ComStar Schism ultimately led to

The
Free Worlds League Military
(FWLM) was the armed forces of the Free Worlds League from that nation's founding in 2271 until the dissolution of the League in 3078, and then after the League's rebirth in 3139. It was repeatedly referred to as the
Free Worlds League Militia
as well.
Organization[edit]
Main article: Free Worlds League Military Organization
For much of its history, the FWLM operated its units independently, but the Fourth Succession War and Andurien Secession taught them the value of using combined-arms tactics. To that end, different types of units were organized into one unit and ordered to work together.
Command[edit]
Parliament[edit]
According to the original charter of the Free Worlds League, command of the FWLM rests with Parliament. In times of war, Parliament was meant to give temporary command to a Captain-General. In practice, the only control Parliament has had over the military since the onset of the Succession Wars was through funding allocation.
Captain-General[edit]
Practical command of the FWLM has rested with the Captain-General for centuries. Originally a position that was purely military power, the
Color Scheme
The iconic color for the Free Worlds League is purple. The reason is twofold: not only is the Free Worlds League crest dominated by the purple Marik eagle, but one of the most significant portions of the League military is the Marik Militia, which uses purple as it primary color (with red accents on the right and blue accents on the left). Though purple is iconic for House Marik, green and white are used almost as frequently.
Iconic Paint Colors:
Apple Barrel Petunia Purple, Citadel Xereus Purple, VMC Violet, VGC Hexed Lichen, Reaper Imperial Purple.
Other Primary Paint Colors:
Apple Barrel Forest Green, Apple Barrel Spring Green, Citadel Warboss Green, Citadel Skarsnik Green, VGC Goblin Green, VGC Scorpion Green, VMC Intermediate Green, VMC Olive Green.
Painting Techniques:
Purple can be highlighted by mixing white into your base color, or—depending on the shade of purple—it can be highlighted by mixing in pink or light blue. A targeted black wash will work with purple, but a blue-black or dark blue targeted wash looks even better.
