Tv tropes captain america brave new world

As I headed into the cinema on Valentine’s evening to catch Marvel’s latest effort,
Captain America: Brave New World
, I was met but the very odd sight of a lobby full of ladies of a certain age…

It turned out they were (largely) there for the new
Bridget Jones
flick which was starting at the same time in the largest of The Mallard’s four screens, and so the Marvel Cinematic Universe release was relegated to the slightly smaller Screen 3.

What this says about the ongoing perception of the series I’d be hard pushed to draw from a one off event like this, but it backed up my feeling of this not quite reaching the level of hype and excitement generated by the
Avengers
movies of even past
Captain America
efforts – that said the auditorium (to use rather too grand a word) we were in was all but full…

I must admit my expectations for this instalment of the
Captain America
branch of the MCU weren’t high, though I’m not sure I could quite put my finger on why, so I’m very pleased to report that I had a far better time than I’d expected.

Blockbuster movies are supposed to be big, bold and epic.

That’s the whole point of them; to take us into some intensely escapist storytelling that consumes the screen, monopolises all our attention and so subsumes us in a world and a story not our own that we’re barely aware of time passing, the people around us, or, hopefully, that person two rows over (but still annoyingly in our sightline) who keeps checking their phone with near-religious devotion.

Most of them deliver, not always with enough substance to justify any long-term rumination, but they deliver enough spectacular imagery and CGI presence that we can forgive the fact that they linger no more than dandelion puffs whooshing off in the wind.

There are some terrible ones of course that are most definitely sound and fury signifying nothing, but they are almost not as bad as films like
Captain America: Brave New World
which has the bang and the boom and the action scenes to boot, and also some touching moments that make the heart beat just that little bit faster in empathy, but which ultimately falls flat, leaving not much of a lasting impression.

To be clear,

Brave New World succeeds mostly by breaking in Mackie as the new Cap—a very mortal man with tremendous tech and excellent physical training who’s also polylingual and thoughtful enough to ask after people’s relatives.

With a tighter focus, stronger character development, and a more coherent visual approach, it could have soared. Instead, it settles for being just good enough—which, for a character like Captain America, doesn’t quite cut it.

There is good and bad with “Captain America: Brave New World”. I would put this squarely in the middle tier of MCU films that could be fun to revisit later on but could have been better.

Captain America: Brave New World is not a disaster. Yet, the film stumbles with confusing plot points and uneven character development. . Overall, this Captain America Review shows that the movie is a solid, if imperfect, entry in the Marvel lineup.
